Cartier transforms Christmas into a dreamlike experience with ten artistic installations and crystal-clear sound design

To celebrate Christmas, Cartier is offering a dreamlike, offbeat experience featuring its creations, in the form of ten conceptual art installations imagined by Metz and Racine.

Crystal-clear, pared-down sound design and experimental, minimal ASMR rendering subtly link the soundtracks of these films to the magic of Christmas.

Context

Mooders was asked by Creaminal to compose the original music and sound design for the Cartier brand’s Christmas campaign: “Sound Of Christmas”. This ambitious artistic project required a real symbiosis between visual and sound productions.

Accustomed to the world of luxury goods, the duo of directors Metz+Racine designed the installations and produced the films. Bags, watches and jewelry are at the center of contemplative devices, evoking the magic of Christmas in an immersive universe, transforming these products into an integral part of a work of art.

Solutions

The challenge of our work as composer-sound designer was to create a sensitive sound universe, a form of magic that would give substance to the visual representations, while adding a “Christmas” touch. The brief we were given suggested creating a strong parallel between the visual installations and the sound sensations produced in the manner of so-called “ASMR” (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response) content.

We had to experiment, work on the sounds and succeed in using different sound treatments for each of the installations. Visual indicators were decisive in our choice of sound: metal, smoke, crystal, geometric shapes…

Conclusion

The campaign, made up of 8 “capsule films”, featured each of the brand’s products at the heart of the work: elegant, poetic scenes in motion, conceived as unique sensory experiences.

 

 

All had their own unique textures and materials, which we had to translate into music. The experimental, minimalist character of the installations was also inspiring when it came to composing this unique ambience.
