Sound Design Creation for The New Vibe

Sound design at the heart of The New Vibe concept

Mooders was approached by The New Vibe to participate in a tender to create the sound design for its innovative concept. The New Vibe is a live interactive show that offers unforgettable experiences. An innovative concept that blows the genre out of the water, a quiz wrapped up in a never-before-seen immersive show. Since October 23, 2022, The New Vibe has been on every Sunday at 7:44pm. Smartphone in hand, we answer twelve questions to win unique experiences, such as attending a Stromae concert at Madison Square Garden. The founders, convinced that sound design would be a strategic component for their app, were determined to create original music and customized sound design to give the experience a unique sound right from its launch.

After winning the tender, Mooders worked on a musical DNA, which would carry all the markers expected by the founders of The New Vibe. This track will later become the show’s theme song. Sound design with a strong identity is intended to have a powerful and immediate impact. The aim is to mark the player’s sound environment with character and emotion, making him or her more likely to return to the application if the sound universe has a strong personality and adds value to the overall experience.

Original, anthemic, unifying music, building to a crescendo

The musical direction is rooted in the world of urban music, particularly trap. This theme was chosen to match the target audience : young adults who mainly, if not exclusively, use their smartphones to consume various digital content. We also had to generate a sense of belonging and competition to this original composition. A simple melody, in a high register, present from the first notes of the credits until the end, acts as the backbone of the creation. This melody, combined with the jerky rhythms and powerful sounds of trap, creates a feeling of positive strength. Saturated bass sounds, increasingly present throughout the composition, add a sense of high stakes. This hint of positivity, inscribed in the urban force of trap music, can be found in all the declensions subsequently created as soundtracks for the various key moments of the experience. One of Mooders’ challenges was to keep an identifiable sound element for each moment of the game. The strong musical signature of The New Vibe was designed to allow instant sound identification of the game’s universe.

Mooders, sound craftsmen of music to image

The sound creation process took place “blindly”, as it was carried out prior to the production of the application’s graphic design. We adopted a global sound approach, in line with the precise expectations of the application’s creators, and drew on the complementary skills of Mooders’ composers and their experience as sound designers to bring this project to fruition. The game features a number of different sound environments, each adding something new to its role and the sequence of the show it illustrates, while at the same time ensuring coherence, as it emanates from the main composition.

The game’s musical signature is therefore based on references to urban music, a unifying feeling, the sense of a high stakes game, combined with a crescendo construction following the show’s progression. This signature, reflected in the sound design, is intended to leave its mark on the emotions the user will experience throughout the game, and to instantly immerse the player in the world of The New Vibe.

Mooders wins the sound challenge

For The New Vibe, Mooders was able to adapt its approach both to a new type of digital experience and to an innovative universe. To propose a strong theme in the credits, so as to be identifiable in just a few notes, and to infuse a brand’s personality into a very short musical format, to then subtly distill it into all the content declined from the musical starting point, the show’s credits.

A few words from Basile Tisse, co-founder of The New Vibe : “Working with Mooders was a very rewarding experience. They were quick to come up with creations that were both relevant to the values we wanted to convey in our sound design, but also suggested directions for certain parts of the game that we hadn’t anticipated, and which turned out to be very effective. Creativity, good humor and responsiveness, that’s what I’ll remember about this collaboration”.
